Our First Project – Stadium Apartments

This has been over a year in the making – a 34 unit modular flexhousing apartment project in the transit oriented neighbourhood of Parkdale.  We are very excited to be breaking ground on this project this fall, as it encompasses so many of the great ideas we have been talking about for better infill development in this city.  While this is not the first modular project in this city, it is, in our opinion, the most innovative.

There will be 4 barrier free units on the main floor, and 10 units per floor on the upper three floors. Of these 34 units, 14 will be two bedroom plus flex-room suites, 14 will be one bedroom plus flex-room suites, and 6 will be studio suites. Our team has spent many hours going back and forth to come up with thoughtful suite layouts that would work for families, couples, or singles. The flex-rooms provide an opportunity for adaptable spaces that meet the changing needs of the residents. For example, the flex-room can be used as a dining room, an office, a guest suite for visiting relatives, a baby room, a yoga room, etc. The possibilities are endless for these spaces.

In addition to the flexhousing principles and modular construction, this development will incorporate sustainable design practices such as triple glazed windows, a fairly robust building envelope for reduced energy consumption, solar ready installation on roof, utility metering for each suite (electrical and water), low flow plumbing fixtures, and low VOC finishes. Over the next few weeks we will expand on these design characteristics in more detail through a series of blog posts, but for now we have one question weighing our minds. What should we name it?

What’s in a name? Everything. We want a name that speaks to the innovative nature of the building itself, but also a name that fits and is welcomed into the neighbourhood of Parkdale. We think this a fantastic community in the heart of Edmonton, that has incredible access to amenities, LRT, parks, the revitalization of 118th Ave, and the new Commonwealth Community Rec Centre. It has an extraordinary history, as do many of these older neighbourhoods in the city. So we need your help. We have a few ideas of our own, but would like to know what you think and give you an opportunity to leave a lasting impact in the community.
