RedBrick Narrow Lot Home Initiative
As you may already know, the push to get approval for narrow lot homes and garage & garden suites throughout all RF1 zoned neighbourhoods is being presented to City Council today. Why am I in support of this bylaw change? Why is infill in Edmonton important to me?
I grew up on a farm in northern Alberta, where I was raised to think about the impacts of my actions today and how they affected generations tomorrow. We farmed organic before organic became “cool”. We believed it was the right thing to do. It was harder work and lower immediate returns, but the long term benefits far out weighed the short term pain. This belief is the legacy my mother gave me: the importance of striving to leave the world a better place than when I found it.
I’ve combined that belief with my passion for buildings, I have realized that the legacy I want to leave behind for my children and grandchildren is to be a great city builder and help Edmonton realize it’s vision of being a vibrant, diverse, carbon neutral city in 40 years.
I believe part of our path to being a vibrant and diverse city lies in infill. Allowing narrower homes and garage/garden suites in all neighbourhoods in Edmonton, will play a crucial role in achieving our vision and goals. Next month, RedBrick is launching a narrow lot home initiative in Edmonton. I am excited to share with others what I’ve been planning over the course of this last year.
